Here is an introduction from BeadFest 2019 Kumihimo Classes, instructor, Cindy Grayson along with a reminder of the supplies we use.
I would also like to use this platform for all of my students to join in on the comments section and start introducing yourselves to each other, ask questions and just get psyched to take these classes!! You may bring an important question to the table that I didn’t think of. This will help me to continue to prepare myself to set and realize expectations.
Let’s make this fun!
Comment in the comments section below with:
your name, where you are from, how long you have been kumihimo-ing, why you chose to take this class and what you hope to get out of it…
I’ll start, see my comment below (p.s. I am so excited, I absolutely LOVE teaching, especially Kumihimo!!)
I wanted to mention a couple of things to set class expectations. I can’t promise that you will finish your project in class. As you know it is a lot of work and it really depends on you and your speed. I always emphasize with my students..
(which are extracted from my Local Class Series: Bead Runway Kumihimo Technique Pattern Series) that allow you to expand your kumihimo horizon. With each new technique exploration and bead journal entry, you will begin to be more and more empowered to create your own patterns and use your own beads. This is where my invention the Bead Runway (patent pending) was created. An invention made from necessity. So please focus on learning a new technique, not the finished piece. If you learn the technique, you can remake this piece as many times as you want in as many variations as your brain will allow.
The great news is, my class series in a book was finally published last year and Bead Runway Kumihimo Technique Pattern Series Vol.1 by Cindy Grayson, is available on Amazon or from my website, MadeYouLookDesign.com. If you purchase the book from my website, get $5 OFF using discount code “5OFFBOOK”. I know many of you have already purchased the book and I want to say a very heartfelt THANK YOU for all of your support, and in that case I will allow those of you to use the coupon for anything on my website. (remember to select “pick-up” to avoid the shipping cost)
All students will receive a kit that includes all the beads, cording and findings you will need to create the project you have signed up for.
Here is a link to an Amazon shopping list for the Kumihimo Toolkit supplies I suggest. The adhesives can also be purchased from Michael’s Arts & Crafts or from my website. If you purchase anything to me for the classes and want to avoid shipping cost, mark “pick-up” at checkout and in the notes section write which class you are attending.

If you are an existing kumihimo teacher and would like to teach Bead Runway techniques to your students, please contact me or mention in comments. Big things coming next year! Opportunities for my faculty to have their designs published in my next book, marketing tools to promote local classes and more!
At any given time I have about 4 different Bead Runways in use in my house. I use them to layout different design ideas while they are fresh in my mind and leave them there until I have time to string them up on disk. I also use the really fancy ones as a backdrop to take photos of my jewelry and layouts for future use. Each one is one of a kind so pick one now! Order here
